Humboldt County Office of Education: Health and Science Pipeline Initiative (HASPI) Workshop

Health and Science Pipeline Initiative (HASPI) Workshop

Health and Science Pipeline Initiative (HASPI) Workshop

On October 19th, Health Career Pathway educators gathered in the Sequoia Conference Center to learn about ways to incorporate new labs into their Bio and Community Health Classes. Health and Science Pipeline Initiative (HASPI) Labs are medically-based and help students make direct connections between science and specific health careers. In order to build on those connections, the Health Career Exploration Project (HCEP) aims to connect health care professionals with students to bridge the gap between the classroom and a professional setting and our education @ Work partners are an integral part of bridging that gap. Among other aspects of the new labs, educators tested sunscreen to get a visual representation of the important role it has in preventing skin cancer. Dermatologists, estheticians, and oncologist are among the many health career specialists concerned with skin health.
