Ridgewood Student Awarded in National Art Contest

Victor Isaacs, a second grader at Ridgewood School, was nationally recognized for his photo entry, “A Heroes Journey,” and will be receiving a real silver medal, $200 scholarship, and his photo will be part of the national exhibition.

Each year, the Ridgewood School Parent Teacher Association (PTA) hosts an art program surrounding a theme determined by the National PTA. This year’s theme was “Heroes Around Us.”

Each PTA unit selects one entry, grouped by age, to move to the district level representing each of the six categories: visual art, photography, dance, choreography, music, composition, literature, and film.

The entries are judged based on three criteria:

  1. Interpretation of Theme (20 pts)
  2. Creativity (10 pts)
  3. Technique (10 pts)

Several of those at the district level moved onto receive state recognition and Victor Isaacs photo was selected to move onto the national competition, where he earned an Award of Excellence. In his artist statement about the photo and how it relates to the theme, Victor stated, “my friend and my brother are my every day heroes walking across the bridge of life.”
