School Closures Extended Due to Shelter in Place Orders

Due to the shelter in place orders from Humboldt County Public Health today and the continued risk to community health posed by the coronavirus, all school districts in Humboldt County will continue to be closed at least through April 10.

This week, California Governor Gavin Newsom advised parents to prepare for the possibility that schools may be closed through the summer break. While that could happen, we remain hopeful that conditions will improve enough to allow schools to reopen before the end of the school year.

School districts throughout Humboldt County will continue to provide meals to students during the closure. A list of school meal pick up locations and times is available on our website at www.hcoe.org/covid-19.

“Our main priority is the health and safety of our students, families, and staff,” states Humboldt County Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Chris Hartley. “We know the disruption in normal school operations has created many issues and uncertainties – from childcare and remote learning to graduation plans and college preparation. Please know the Humboldt County Office of Education will continue to support our districts, schools and students during this unprecedented time.”
