The Compass Tool: Writing FBAs for School Psychologists and Behaviorists
The FBA Audit: Don’t Just Guess and Stress—Let the PENT Compass Be Your Guide
This hands-on training provides a focused review of FBA guidelines and their direct application to writing defensible, function-based assessments. Using the PENT Compass Tool as a guiding framework, participants will learn how to ensure each component of the FBA is aligned, purposeful, and meets expectations for CDE-compliant, legally defensible practice.
By the end of the training, participants will be able to:
- Write clear, observable, and measurable behavior definitions
- Use the PENT Compass Tool to structure FBA development
- Identify and interpret patterns in behavior data
- Develop function-based hypotheses that are logically supported
- Ensure FBAs are aligned, consistent, and legally defensible for school-based decision making
What to Bring: A sanitized completed or draft FBA from your current caseload (if available), any related data you would like support interpreting, and your computer for scoring, analysis, and revision activities.
