Due to the current Shelter in Place order and the uncertainty of the length of time we will be social distancing, St. Joseph Health System and Humboldt County Office of Education have cancelled the HESI program for 2020.
We appreciate the time spent on applying to this program. We hope that next year brings a brighter experience and that all eligible students apply again next year.
Health-Careers Exploration Summer Institute (HESI) is a 3-week summer program that began in 2017. Students start in a classroom setting where they learn medical terminology, an overview and certification of HIPAA, (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act), disease and infection control, how to read and analyze case studies, vital signs and effective communication skills.
Students then spend nine days in hospital rotations observing real-world events that occur in the many facets of healthcare and career opportunities that exist in Humboldt County. At the end of the program students celebrate and share their experiences and future plans with their family, friends and mentors at a presentation dinner held at the Sequoia Conference Center.
