Special Projects Technician – Career Guidance-Technician

Job Summary

The Special Project Technician Career Guidance Technician shall report directly to site admin and work closely with the Program and Event Coordinator for Education at Work. This position will assume responsibility for providing communication between HCOE and site Career Guidance Technicians throughout Humboldt County. Emphasis will be placed on gathering and input of necessary grant reporting data, including student surveys, communication of engagement opportunities, supporting the Education at Work industry partner database, and developing promotional materials.

Examples of Duties

  • Support and facilitate all Ed@Work data collection, marketing, promotion, and other logistics to support the success of the program.
  • Works to expand the outreach and success of HCOE Ed@Work activities at local charter schools and alternative education sites by facilitating:
    • Participation in College Connect field trips
    • Attendance at Career speaker panels
    • Registration for CTSO activities/field trips
    • Collection of Career Fair participant surveys
    • Distribution of Ed@Work promotional materials
    • Promote the use of California Career Zone for career exploration
    • Collection of student video submissions for Ed@Work Innovate Business Challenge
  • Contribute to Ed@Work blog posts and newsletters, activity logs showing participation in campus events, collection of grant reporting data.
  • Organize and track multiple activities going on simultaneously.
  • Facilitate and conduct regional meetings with school site Career Guidance Technicians.
  • Must pass a background check, Mandated Reporter, and complete a CPR Certification course.
  • Supports the policies and programs of the Humboldt County Office of Education and performs assigned duties consistent with school, district or office policies, regulations and procedures.
  • Cooperatively engages in the professional evaluation process with supervisor to ensure ongoing professional growth and competence.

Employment Standards

Knowledge of:

  • Experience in communicating effectively with students and adults, colleagues and representatives of other agencies both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and experience with various community resources associated with the career field.
  • Graduation from high school. 3 years clerical experience or equivalent, including computer operations. Must have well developed verbal and written communication, organization and problem solving skills.
  • Must be familiar with online resources pertaining to career and technical education.

Ability to:

  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Make oral presentation to small and large groups
  • Relate well and to work cooperatively with a variety of agency and school representatives
  • Maintain records, compile and verify data
  • Work effectively in the absence of supervision
  • Adapt to changing work demands
  • Manage task priorities to meet deadlines
  • Work effectively under varying degrees of stress

Physical Abilities

  • Stand, sit and/or move about for sustained periods.
  • Move about in non-traditional instructional environments; i.e., areas of the community.
  • Report to multiple worksites in a given day or during the workweek.
  • Communicate effectively in-person and via telephone and other electronic media to individuals and groups of varying sizes.
