A Mother’s Tale: Humpback Whales, Tonga

Humpback whales migrate thousands of miles between their feeding grounds of Antarctica to the warm waters of Tonga to give birth. Mother humpback whales feed their babies more than 50 gallons of nutrient rich fatty milk a day as babies gain more than 100 pounds a day.

The mother lives off her fat stores until the baby is strong enough to migrate back to their feeding grounds. Annie Crawley spent time in Tonga with mamas and babies, filming and photographing them to create this beautiful story about humpback whales. She leads trips and would love to introduce you to swimming with humpback whales.
