Using Independent Reading as Mentor Texts

Presenter: Dr. AmyK Conley
Session 3 | Sequoia A

Description

Independent reading can be so varied that teachers aren’t sure how to assess or connect to writing, but it can be used to support reading and writing fluency and work on writing craft as a mentor text. Even very young children benefit from independent reading. Teaching writing craft using independent reading as a mentor text allows choice in reading and direct instruction in writing.
