The Humboldt County Office of Education is excited to announce that we are underwriting access to ebooks and audiobooks for all Humboldt County schools. This means that all 17,000 students across the county will be able to access high-interest reading materials both at school and at home, at no cost to your school.
Our goal is to foster a love of reading and support every student in becoming a lifelong reader. To make this possible, we’ve partnered with OverDrive to bring the Sora reading app to your students and teachers.
Sora delivers an award-winning digital reading experience that allows students to enjoy ebooks and audiobooks anytime, anywhere, on any device. With a vast catalog of millions of digital titles, Sora supports your school’s curriculum while also encouraging reading for pleasure. The app is easy to use, highly engaging, and works seamlessly with the educational technology your school already uses.
Students can log in using their school email to instantly access the full Humboldt County Library digital collection—no library card required. They’ll also gain access to the additional collection funded by HCOE, which includes popular chapter books, audiobooks, graphic novels, and even decodable books to support early reading.
We’re thrilled to bring this opportunity to your school and look forward to supporting your students on their reading journey.

By logging in through Overdrive Marketplace (SORA’s parent company) teachers can:
- Roster their classes
- View a summary of their class reading activity
- Assign specific titles to individual students or a whole class
