The Mental and Behavioral Health course is designed for high school students to develop an understanding of social emotional development and transitions; the impact of society; and culture on their academic and personal growth in all stages of life. Students will explore promotion, prevention and intervention strategies – integrating culturally relevant and community based curriculum – to provide pre-requisite skills useful in mental and behavioral health and wellness careers.
This course introduces and exposes students to some topics, issues, and populations related to the counseling and mental health field. With an emphasis on serving the Native American and BIPOC population, Students will receive a strong foundation and framework of understanding social and emotional teen transitions and the impact of society and culture on their academic, personal growth, and development. The course will address contemporary adolescent issues affecting health and wellness while also teaching students how they can be an ally for their peers in social and emotional health and wellness.
