Located in Fortuna, Redwood Learners Preschool is a program that services preschool children both typically developing and those with learning needs. The program tries to keep a balance of half to sixty percent typically developing children and half to forty percent kids with learning needs. The program has both general education teaching staff co-teaching with a special education staff. Staff is added to the program so that all students are supported.

Our Philosophy

Our vision is to provide an inclusive preschool setting where Universal Design for Learning is utilized to meet the needs of all students. Our school’s mission is to set the foundation for inclusive equitable preschool practices in Humboldt County with the intention to educate the local community. It is our intention to have school communities where students and staff embrace diversity, equity and inclusive cultures.

Inclusion is a way of thinking and acting that allows every individual to feel accepted, valued, and safe. An inclusive community consciously evolves to meet the changing needs of its members. Through recognition and support, an inclusive community provides meaningful involvement and equal access to the benefits of citizenship.

Goals

  • To meet to needs of individual students and promote success in language, preacademics, and social development.
  • Provide safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment free from discrimination.
  • To maintain consistent communication with parents, staff, and the community regarding ways to better assist our students.
  • To prepare each student for the transition to kindergarten.

Preschool Eligibility

  • Students between the ages of 3 and 5 years old
  • Current immunization record
  • Completed enrollment packet
  • Payment in advance of applicable, non-refundable fees (General Education students only)
  • $250 a month flat rate
  • General Education students must be toilet trained prior to enrollment
  • Those students identified as having special needs must be evaluated and meet specific eligibility criteria
