December 7, 2023 – During the December 6, 2023, special meeting of the Humboldt County Board of Education, the Board took action to make a provisional appointment to fill the vacancy in Trustee Area 5, which occurred due to the resignation of Sheila Rocker Heppe on October 29, 2023.  After a public interview, the Board selected Rene Quintana as the provisional appointee to Trustee Area 5.

The provisional appointment shall become an effective appointment within 30 days of December 6, 2023, unless a petition calling for a special election containing signatures of 1.5% of the registered voters, or 25 registered voters, whichever is greater, residing within Trustee Area 5 is filed with the Humboldt County Superintendent of Schools.
