2023-2024 CA Statewide Assessment Results Released

Eureka (Oct. 15, 2024) – On Oct, 10, 2024, the California Department of Education (CDE) released the 2023-24 California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) and English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC) results which are available on the test results homepage.

What Does the Data Tell Us?

Overall, across the State, the test results show incremental gains across all student groups, with more students meeting or exceeding standards in ELA, Math, and Science. ELA test scores overall increased slightly, from 46.7% of the state’s students meeting or exceeding proficiency standards in 2023 to 47% in 2024. In Humboldt County, ELA test scores reflected similar increases from 40.8% of students meeting or exceeding proficiency standards in 2023 to 41.1% in 2024.

Math and science scores also edged up incrementally, with 30.7% of students in both subjects meeting or exceeding proficiency standards compared with 30.2% the year before. In Humboldt County, math test scores showed a similar upward trend from 29.5% of students meeting or exceeding proficiency standards in 2023 to 31.1% in 2024. Science scores were also closely aligned to the overall state results increasing from 30.2% of students meeting or exceeding proficiency standards in 2023 to 30.7% in 2024 within our county.

In Humboldt County, our socioeconomically disadvantaged students showed even greater gains than those across the state in ELA and math assessments. ELA test scores increased by 1.9 percentage points from 31.9% meeting or exceeding standards in 2023 to 33.8% in 2024, and math test scores increased by 2.8 percentage points from 21.7% meeting or exceeding standards in 2023 to 24.5% in 2024, doubling the increase shown in state math scores. Science test scores also showed increases from 19.3% meeting or exceeding standards in 2023 to 20.7% in 2024.

“We are seeing positive gains in student test scores across Humboldt County,” said Humboldt County Superintendent of Schools Michael Davies-Hughes. “Our teachers, administrators and support staff continue to work hard to ensure that our students are prepared for success, both now and in the future.  There is certainly room for improvement is our students’ test results, but we are moving in the right direction.”
