A course designed to familiarize students in the diverse field of allied health professions,including but not limited to: EMT/Paramedic, Fire Technology, Phlebotomy, Radiology Technician, Nursing, Dental Assisting, Health and Fitness, etc.
Intended for students who may be interested in a health field but want to learn more about different types of careers available. Emphasis will be placed on hands-on learning application to each profession. Students will be able to get first-hand experience of the health professions while earning certifications towards their future career goals.
A course designed to familiarize students with the fields of kinesiology, exercise science, and sport studies. Students will examine the systems, dynamics, and principles involved in human development, physical activity, care and prevention of sports injuries, all through hands-on learning. Intended for students interested in coaching, physical education, athletic training and the fitness profession, this course provides basic information on a variety of topics relating to health care for the physically active and competitive athletes. In addition, students will discuss current issues and areas of career opportunities
Advanced Patient Care: Introduction to Sports Medicine is a two semester course designed for students who are interested in fields such as athletic training, physical therapy, medicine, nursing, fitness, physiology of exercise, kinesiology, nutrition, EMT, and other sports medicine related fields. This course focuses on the basic information and skills important in the recognition of care, prevention, and preliminary rehabilitation of athletic injuries. This course includes class work and hands-on application of learning materials to explore these fields of study. Prerequisites include Public Health & Safety (sophomore-level class) and Applied Kinesiology and Patient Care (junior-level class).
