This year, several Humboldt County schools will be under new leadership. Five new superintendents will be opening their doors, greeting students, and welcoming families onto campuses throughout the region. From Arcata to Trinidad to Hydesville, these professionals have undergone extensive interview processes and selected by their respective boards and community to take the helm and kick off the 2018-19 school year.
Some individuals have been in the community and have taken on a new role, whereas some are new to our area. The following individuals are already busy getting ready for the first day of school:
- Luke Biesecker, Superintendent of Arcata School District
- August Deshais, Superintendent of Hydesville School District
- Autumn Chapman, Superintendent of Loleta Union School District
- Amy Gossien, Superintendent of Scotia School District
- Katie Cavanaugh, Superintendent of Trinidad Union School District
“I am so impressed by the community support, dedication of school staff, and the innovative educational opportunities built into our traditional school settings,” exclaimed the new Arcata School District Superintendent Luke Biesecker. “I am excited to be the new Arcata School District Superintendent and look forward to becoming more familiar with the families, personnel, programs and services.”
Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Chris Harley is excited about the new opportunities that these leaders will bring to the table, “Hiring a new superintendent is one of the most important roles placed upon the Board of Education,” he stated. “All of these talented leaders are service oriented and I’m confident will be great additions to Humboldt County schools. I congratulate and wish them all the best for an amazing 2018-19 school year.”
