Introduction to Education

Have you ever thought of working in the school environment? Introduction to Education is a new course offering for 2025-2026 at Ferndale High School. It will be a part of the child development pathway, which will offer three courses; Introduction to Education, English II, and Education Internship.

This introductory course is designed to prepare students to pursue a career in the field of child care and development and students for professional or learning support positions in education for grades preschool through 12th grades. Students study child growth, human development, nutrition, health practices, education standards and best practices, regulations, positive guidance, counseling techniques; age-appropriate and grade appropriate learning strategies; learning theories; and standards-based curriculum and instructional design.

This course will be hands-on, fun activities, working with young children at times for projects, and identifying if a student is interested in being in the education field. The course will be an A-G “G” elective course.
