For the 2020-2021 school year, all Family Maker Nights will be held via Zoom. Each one will feature one or more hosts and a variety of activities designed so that you can follow along and do them at home. Videos of the activities will also be archived so you can watch them and do the activities later if you want.

Traditional ecological knowledge (TEK) is also found in ancient stories. Tribal worldview includes a storied landscape that has existed since time immemorial. The traditional story of the Keehl (Redwood) and the Chue’-cheesh (Bird) will be shared through home-made shadow play, infusing Yurok language.

Learn about the history and engineering of the catapult. Participants will be led through construction using simple objects and then practice launching a lightweight object with their creation.

Create a different type of launcher with alternative materials. How does the outcome change with different materials & objects
Make a launcher for a ping pong and see how far it will go.

This will challenge the participant to create a solution to the problem of getting an object safely down to the ground from a height.
