The Six Rivers National Forest has been chosen to provide this year’s Christmas tree to adorn the west lawn of the U.S. Capitol, representing the USDA Forest Service and the state of California. As part of the 51-year USDA Forest Service tradition, the Six Rivers National Forest is providing the People’s Tree for the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol and 130 smaller trees to adorn the offices throughout Washington, D.C. for the 2021 holiday season.
How do you decorate one 80-foot-tall Christmas tree plus 130 smaller companion trees? With lots and lots of ornaments and tree skirts! And they need your help decorating it! Create a home-made ornament and drop it off at Humboldt County Office of Education or one of several other Humboldt County locations by Sept. 15, 2021 for use on the tree!
Create a large ornament, small ornament, or tree skirt and drop it off at HCOE or one of several other locations throughout Humboldt County. The Capitol Christmas Tree website has details on what an ornament or tree skirt should entail, and a full list of dropoff locations.
You can make your own creation, or use one of several ideas found on this page. Instructions for several ornament ideas are available as printable PDFs in both English and Spanish below.
Submission Deadline: September 15, 2021
Note: Ornaments may NOT include logos, political, or religious affiliation or symbols, drug or alcohol references, be divisive or offensive. Ornaments cannot be returned. If you plan to create a tree skirt, you should contact Maritza Guzman (email or phone (707) 672-3184).
