Data and Reporting Advisor

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Director in School Support, the Data and Reporting Advisor provides leadership, advice and support to Humboldt County Office of Education (HCOE) direct service school district personnel, regarding field-related matters which may include compliance issues and interpretation of various governmental codes within their assigned department. Ensures that overall policies and practices meet compliance requirements and may also lead or co-lead applicable focused training for all Humboldt County districts and charter schools.

Distinguishing Characteristics

An Advisor is the highest level of classified work providing leadership to HCOE and District personnel.  The Data and Reporting Advisor is responsible for creating and overseeing processes at the district level and provides leadership, advice and support to HCOE staff and LEAs/Districts. This position reports to the Director of School Support and works under minimal supervision.

Examples of Duties

  • Monitors databases for accuracy and data integrity; manages and manipulates large amounts of data and generates charts, graphs or reports accessible to staff and members of the public. Produces user-friendly charts, graphs and reports.
  • Works closely with the HCOE administration, departmental leadership and Differentiated Assistance team to provide data visualization and integration services.
  • Disaggregates data and generates data displays as needed for department reports, district and school reports and state or federal mandated reports.
  • Works with LEA administration and staff to support data analysis and reporting, including support for educationally related data platforms (e.g. CALPADS, Aeries, TOMS, SEIS, California Schools Dashboard, DataQuest, etc.).
  • Designs, plans, and delivers staff development opportunities that support LEA teams with Data Analysis and support for the county’s data visualization platform
  • Works as a part of the DA team to provide districts with individualized and small group support for data analysis.
  • Designs, plans, and delivers content related to CALPADS, SISs and other data related platforms.
  • Provides 1:1 support to new LEA CALPADS staff and ongoing targeted support for LEAs that are eligible for Technical Assistance based on CALPADS reporting.
  • Works with districts on developing and maintaining data sharing agreements.
  • Actively engages in an ongoing program of professional development to maintain and improve skills and abilities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Employment Standards

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study, and (4) years related experience with increasing responsibility in related field of work.

OR

  • Five (5) years related experience with increasing responsibility.

Preferred Experience

Experience working in a school, district, or county office of education setting.

  • Ability to coach practitioners.
  • Work effectively independently, with minimal supervision, as well as collaborate with others in a team setting.
  • Provide direction/oversight to others as requested.

  • Establish and maintain effective, positive and cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Knowledge of proper oral and written English usage.
  • Ability to use databases and software including Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and Google Suite applications.

Working Conditions

With or without accommodation, this position includes prolonged periods of standing or sitting, frequent walking, and occasional bending, stooping, and reaching. The employee must be able to lift, push, and pull objects up to 50 pounds. Visual and auditory abilities, along with finger dexterity for computer work, are required to perform essential job functions.

Other Requirements

·         Must be fingerprinted and a satisfactory Department of Justice records check must be received by HCOE prior to employment.

·         TB testing and/or risk assessment will be required upon employment.
