Tranisitonal Kindergarten (TK) Residency Program

The Humboldt County Office of Education(HCOE) is pleased to announce funding to support up to 5 Transitional Kindergarten (TK) teacher residency candidates to obtain their P-K Teacher Credential. HCOE is funding the residency program to help our districts to proactively address the transitional kindergarten teacher shortage across Humboldt County. Each candidate will receive $10,000 to assist with costs associated with obtaining their P-K teacher credential through the Vanguard University P-K teaching credential program. Such costs include tuition, fees, books and assessment costs.

Eligibility Requirements
  • Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree or higher.
  • Candidates have to be accepted to Vanguard University’s P-K Teacher Credential program.
  •  (The application deadline has been extended until May 1st, 2025. All others open until full.)
  • Candidates may have the opportunity to work as a paid paraprofessional or classroom aide while serving as a resident teacher and agree to remain with that district as a transitional teacher for four years upon completion of the credential.
  • Candidates must participate in ongoing surveys throughout service years.
  • Candidates must meet subject matter requirements prior to fall 2025.
Application Process
  1. Please meet with administration from prospective school site(s) to determine if there is a clear need for transitional kindergarten teachers within that district for the 2025/26 academic year. Visit the Humboldt County Schools & Districts page for a map and list of schools.
  2. Complete the application for Vanguard University’s P-K Teacher Credential program.
  3. Complete the HCOE Residency Application by May 1, 2025.
