The Agriculture programs at Eureka High include agriscience courses from Fisheries and Aquaculture to Soil Chemistry and Biology and Sustainable Agriculture. Students learn using a hands-on approach through dissections and edible labs replicating cell structures and Earth’s layers. The agriculture classes also participate in field trips of local businesses.
The Floral Design classes teach students about cutting flowers, foliage, and house plants, as well as tools, proper care, and how to make corsages and arrangements.
The Ag Mechanics and Welding programs teach students how to cut, arc and MIG weld, and laser engrave metals. Students are able to create unique projects that they design themselves. Ag Mechanics also teaches students the fundamentals of important trade industries including plumbing, electric, and construction through class lessons, projects, field trips and guest lectures from local businesses.
In addition to in-class instruction, Agriculture students are encouraged to participate in the Future Farmers of America (FFA) program, where they compete in Career Development Event teams, raise animals to sell at the Humboldt County Fair, and learn valuable soft skills to help them succeed in college or careers after graduation.
