School Nurse Residency Program
The Humboldt County Office of Education(HCOE) is pleased to announce funding to support up to 5 School Nurse Resident candidates to obtain their School Nurse Credential. HCOE is funding the residency program to help our districts to proactively address the shortage of school nurses across Humboldt County. Each candidate will receive $10,000 to assist with costs associated with obtaining their nursing credential in an accredited School Nurse Credential program. Such costs include tuition, fees, books and assessment costs.
Program Details
The eligible candidates in the teacher residency program shall agree in writing to work as a credentialed school nurse in a California school for a period of at least four years.
Ideally, the sponsored candidate will serve in the district where they served as a resident. A candidate who fails to complete the period of placement and the service agreement of four years in California schools, will be expected to reimburse HCOE the amount of funding that was invested in the candidate’s residency training.
Eligibility Requirements
- Candidates must possess a Nursing Degree.
- Candidates have to be accepted to an accredited California School Nursing credential program.
- (Priority deadline has been extended until May 1st, 2025. All others open until full.)
- Candidates must participate in ongoing surveys throughout service years.
- Candidates must meet subject matter requirements prior to fall 2025.
Application Process
- Please meet with administration from prospective school site(s) to determine if there is a clear need for school nurses within that district for the 2025/26 academic year. Visit our Schools & Districts page for a map and list of schools in Humboldt County.
- Complete an application for an accredited California School Nursing credential program.
- Complete the HCOE School Nurse Resident Eligibility Application by May 1st, 2025.
