By invitation, enrichment sessions for gifted and talented students in grades 4-8.


All County Music Festival

Performances by junior and senior choirs, bands and orchestras.


County Spelling Bee

Sequoia Conference Center

Elementary oral competition and junior high written competition, with four students advancing to State.

History Day 

Saturday, March 9
Humboldt State University

County competition in six categories for projects reflecting the National History Day theme by students in grades 4 – 12.


Doris Niles Science Fair 

March 18-22
Humboldt State University

This event features over 300 projects by students in grades 4-12 who have earned placement through school competitions and are judged by over 100 volunteers for the opportunity to advance to State.


Academic Achievement Team Recognition Dinner 

Thursday, April 4

By invitation, county recognition for highest achieving high school seniors selected by their school leaders.


Seal of Biliteracy Awards

This event provides recognition to high school seniors who have attained a high level of proficiency in one or more languages in addition to English.


Gary Roberts Industrial Technology Showcase

Middle and high school students showcase their woodworking, drafting, metals and machine work; trophies and scholarships awarded.


INNOVATE! Business Challenge Finale

Promoting and recognizing excellence in Humboldt County students

The Rising Stars Foundation is a non-profit program created by the Humboldt County Office of Education to promote and recognize excellence. In addition to 10 countywide activities, the Foundation also sponsors related travel to regional, state, and national events and competitions for which our outstanding students earn the opportunity to participate.
