Due to current CDC guidelines, HCOE will be reimagining our student events during this rapidly changing environment. The safety and wellness of students, families, and school personnel are our highest priorities. GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) Academy

November – February
Ongoing Virtual Event

By invitation, enrichment sessions for gifted and talented students in grades 4-8.


Humboldt County History Day 

Humboldt State University

County competition in six categories for projects reflecting the National History Day theme by students in grades 4 – 12.


County Spelling Bee 

HCOE Annex Board Room

Elementary oral competition and junior high written competition, with four students advancing to State.


All County Music Festival

Thursday, March 25, 2021

Performances by junior and senior choirs, bands and orchestras – done virutally in 2021.


Doris Niles Science Fair 

March 15-19, 2021
Virtual Event

This event features over 300 projects by students in grades 4-12 who have earned placement through school competitions and are judged by over 100 volunteers for the opportunity to advance to State.


Academic Achievement Team Recognition Dinner 

Virtual Ceremony

By invitation, county recognition for highest achieving high school seniors selected by their school leaders.


INNOVATE! Business Challenge Finale

Virtual Ceremony

Business idea competition designed to promote entrepreneurship for high schoolers and recognizing 5 finalists.


Seal of Biliteracy Awards

Virtual Ceremony

This event provides recognition to high school seniors who have attained a high level of proficiency in one or more languages in addition to English.


Gary Roberts Industrial Technology Showcase 

Virtual Event

Middle and high school students showcase their woodworking, drafting, metals and machine work; trophies and scholarships awarded.

Redwood Environmental Education Fair
