EUREKA (March 24, 2025) – The Humboldt County Office of Education (HCOE) is once again offerings three free summer career education programs to high school students. Focusing on healthcare, technology, and the trades industry, these programs will begin on June 16, immediately following the end of the school year.

Health Exploration Summer Institute (HESI):

The Health Exploration Summer Institute is set to take place from June 16 to July 3. This free, three-week summer program offers high school students aged 16 and older a unique and valuable opportunity to explore various careers in healthcare. Through a partnership with Providence St. Joseph & Redwood Memorial hospitals and Open Door Community Health Centers, participants will have the chance to observe and learn from experienced healthcare professionals, gaining insights into a range of healthcare careers.

Technology Exploration Summer Institute (TESI)

The Technology Exploration Summer Institute (TESI) is held at the College of the Redwoods and features two engaging programs:

• TESI Fundamentals runs from June 16 to July 11. This program immerses students in the six key areas of Information Communication Technologies (ICT), equipping them with the knowledge and skills to prepare for the CompTIA IT Fundamentals exam. In addition to comprehensive coursework, students will have the opportunity to visit local worksites, providing a firsthand look at how technology is utilized across various industries.
• TESI AI takes place from July 14-25. In this program, students explore the fascinating field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) alongside other related domains. They will also gain insight into career opportunities through a six-hour, work-based learning experience with one of our industry partners.

Trades Academy Summer Institute (TASI)

The Trades Academy Summer Institute (TASI) program is designed for students passionate about welding technologies and wood design. Hosted at the College of the Redwoods, this immersive program will run from June 16-28. Participants will be interviewed and assigned to either the woodshop or metal shop based on their interests and preferences.
