HCOE offers support to school staff and teams who require additional consultation regarding Nonviolent Crisis Intervention, de-escalation strategies, and behavior management. This service may be warranted when school teams or school staff are trained in CPI and using safe physical interventions on a regular basis, supporting a new student, when school teams are new to providing these types of support, or when school teams are new to working together, among others. This service is designed to support the specific needs of the staff so that they are competent and comfortable in providing a safe learning environment for students.
To provide legally defensible and relevant services, Professionals require specific training and practice in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention. Professionals are trained trainers through the Crisis Prevention Institute and have experience in both training large groups and providing consultation to school staff. The needs that districts have for collaboration and consultation vary widely, this service will be customized to the district based on the initial interviews with administration or staff. The trainer may recommend a specific plan of support that would be agreed to by the district.
Any district or charter may request these services by contacting John Leonard, Director of Special Education at Humboldt County Office of Education johnleonard@hcoe.org .
